We used to use Windolene in a pink glass bottle but can't find it anymore.

What do most people use these days for whiting out their windows while decorating?

Thanks in advance!

  1. What I used after reading it in a hints book, was a mixture of

Epsom Salts and beer. That gives the opaque look and also

came out really nice. I only recall pouring enough beer into

a dish of E.Salts to moisten it gradually. Then 'paint' it on!

It still lets the sunshine through, but the inability to look in.

Hope this is what you mean, and good luck.

P.S. I also read that you can use non fat dry milk and water!

But, I have not tried this one, only the first one mentioned!

  2. its called windowlene, usually comes in a purple bottle, available at all good diy shops.

  3. YOu can still buy original windowlene cream on e-bay. But I juts hung up old net curtains downstairs - oyu can get them in a charity shop.

  4. Buy some Cool glass from the local Diy garden centres B&Q, homebase etc.

  5. You should be able to get something from a garden centre, they sell stuff to white out greenhouses, it washes off.

  6. You could just stick newspaper over the windows.

  7. try windowlene, just put it on but dont wipe it off until youve finished decorating, its a simple but effective way of blanking and also cleaning windows at same time.

  8. Well I use diluted white emulsion. But if you make it to think it can be a pain to get off the windows. I do not know the ratio I just mix until really runny

  9. They sell it at morrisons ,I bought some last week.In a pink plastic bottle.

  10. Try using Brasso it comes off with just a wipe and actually does a good job of cleaning the glass.

  11. How strange! I was thinking only the other day about how you never see this done anymore! I assumed it had gone out of fashion. I have seen windolene in a pink plastic bottle in hardware shops.
