  1. Teaches responsibility

  2. Community Service helps you to get references which will go nicely with your resume. Also you get a chance to meet people and figure out what kind of job would be best for you!

  3. Experience of life!

  4. There are lots of reasons for community service, but you are asking for a good reason for *mandatory* community service.

(I'm speaking of "you" generally, not specifically, ok?) One very good reason is that you've basically had a "free ride" the past 12 years. In the US, you get a free education, free books, free lunches, and a free ride to school. There are churches who will even help you with clothes and spiral notebooks. Community service is a way to "give back" to express appreciation to the community who paid for your education.

The best reason, however, is that high school is supposed to prepare students for the real life. Service is a good way to find out what your strengths and passions are, so that you can make a wise decisions concerning your college/career choices.

Interesting question - thanks for asking!
