Try the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (Outlander is the first book) - sure they're huge but really really amazing to read and the love story that caries through the books is probably in the top 10 of all time. She also covers a lot of different genres - history, action, mystery, travel etc.

If you're looking for something more contemporary try The Diary of Bridget Jones by Helen Fielding.  It's different from the movie and a nice warm fuzzy read.

the mediator series by meg cabot : )

it is about a teenage girl who can see & speak to ghosts. she goes on many adventures to help them out, and she ends up falling for one that lives in her room. im not great at summaries, but it is a really great series!
