  1. Depending on who will fund the school, the school district or your family?  It is best to contact an advocacy group like NYFAC or FEAT.  I would join DTT-NET@yahoogroups.com and verbalbehavior@yahoogroups.com.  Alot of parents could guide you.  Schools vary depending on ability.  If you can get the school district to do evaluations for your brother such as Speech& Lang./ behavioral/ Occupational Therapy/ Psychological - Which can all be done at the McCarton Center or Cody Center in Long Island.  Then there is a better picture as to what kind of school your brother should go to.  All children on the spectrum have different needs.

Eden School, McCarton School, ASCENT, Martin Barrell are a couple. It depends on school districts. Not where the schools are. I believe in Yonkers there was another school. Other options are New Jersey. Advocates can help and even go with your parents to visit the school which is highly suggested.  Call the schools for Open House Days visit their websites.   Good Luck. 2. I grew up in NYC and have an autistic sister.  Here is a list of schools.

  3. Vesid is definitely a good place to start.  However, there is a program that my nephew went through that changed him drastically it is called ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis).  There is a a center in Manhattan:

Association for Metroarea Autistic Children Inc.

    25 W. 17th St.

    NY, NY   (212) 645-5005

There is a school that uses this method of teaching but is about 2 hours away.  Excellent school, excellent-beautiful surroundings and is a boarding school with day programs(there are grants available)

    The Anderson School

    Staatsburg, NY

    (845) 889-4034

    Good luck
