What are good some good guitar brands? Guitar tips?

I've always wanted to learn how to play the acoustic guitar so my boyfriend is gonna buy me one next week and I want one that is loud and not cheap. What are some good brands out there? Also is there any tips you can give me about playing the guitar?

don't bother buying an expensive one. Go to Musiciansfriend.com and buy a 100 dollar special. You may really not like playing guitar, as it hurts like an MF when you're starting. (your fingertips will sting for a long time, and will most likely bleed).

I suggest starters go for a nylon-string guitar or an electric, as the strings are more pliable than a steel-string acoustic. For the outlay of a decent acoustic, you can get a cheap electric with an amp.
