What are good spec for a laptop?

Ok, bit of an odd question but. my friends can get me laptop through there company.

they asked me:

"what are the minimum best specs you want? with this il ask the supplier guy whats the best deal he has on offer"

so basically i give what specs i want and he will get me the best deal the supplier has in that spec range.

what i want to know is what specs should i ask for? i want my laptop to be as fast as is reasonably possible, with out taking the p**s and saying "get me the best!"

would i save more if i dont ask for a small laptop? as i would prefer a small laptop, but if this compromises performance greatly i would just leave it out

Thanks

  1. I think a decent laptop would have at least the following:

Dual Core Processor (1.5 Ghz or more)

    2 Gigs of Ram

160GB Hard Drive (I would personally prefer 250GM though)

    DVD recordable drive

Bluetooth (if you have devices you want to connect)

Wireless Internet Capabilities (these come standard in all laptops now)

If you want to play games, then you'll need a DEDICATED graphics card. Probably a decent one is like a NVidia GForce 8400 M.

    Hope this helps!

  2. dual core processor at at least 1.8 ghz per core

1 gig minimum for the ram

100 gigs + hard drive space

    vista is good

  3. Here we go:

    Intel Core 2 Duo processor

Fast Video Card with at least 250mb VRAM

    2Gb Ram

    120Gb hard drive

    Wireless N Card (for wireless)

-Under 5 pounds (if you want to even carry this thing)

    Good Battery

    That might be good.

  4. Are you going to use this computer at all for playing video games?  If yes, you want a GeForce 8600M GT dedicated video card in it.  (that's a mid-range video card, gives your computer 'video power', it will play all of todays games on medium-high range graphics)

Other than that, you'll want a good mid-high end processor.

I have a Core 2 Duo T7500 in my laptop.  That's 2.2GHz.  Dont get less.  "any core 2 duo will do" is a load of c**p.  Anything under 2.0GHz will be obsolete....h**l, anything under 2.0GHz is obsolete already.  I believe a 2.4GHz laptop processor is the highest end processor you can get at a decent price. 2.5GHz, 2.6GHz, and 2.8GHz processors go from too expensive to be worth it to insanely expensive.  You'll want vista home premium.  Its a few bucks more expensive than home basic, but you get the 'oooo shiny' effect.  You'll want 2GB of RAM.  Most laptops today come with integrated wireless, but make sure.  You wont get a hard drive under 80GB with most also, but make sure you get at least that also

So, he wants to know what your minimum specs are?  Tell him

(these specs if you wont be playing video games)

    2.0GHz processor.

    2GB RAM

    80GB hard drive

    integrated wireless

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit edition

(these specs if you will be playing video games)

    2.2GHz processor

    2GB RAM

    120GB hard drive

    integrated wireless

    Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit edition

(recommended specs irregardless for long lifespan at ~$1,300 retail price)

    2.4GHz processor

    4GB RAM

    250GB hard drive

    integrated wireless

    Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit edition

    -----------------------------

Screen size....well it depends on your preferences really.  14.4" is considered small. 15.4" is considered regular 17" is considered large 20" is considered....DUDE BIG LAPTOP! AWESOME SCREEN! IS IT FULL HIGH DEF RESOLUTION? errr....i mean massive.  Really. Freaking. Huge. Desktop monitor huge.  Doesn't mean their good without the right insides tho :p

Oh, and there's 13.3 inch screens.  13.3" is for morons who didnt realize laptops had screen sizes, or for computer techs who wantt a reversible screen that turns it into a Tablet PC.

  5.     *  Built-in full-size keyboard with 78 ISO keys

        * Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking2

        * Built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

        * Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet

and TR_Vidcom is offering for rent..

  6. Well it really depends on what you need it for.

If you want it as fast as possible you will need to add more RAM to it

Ask for 4 GB of RAM (random access memory) 2 GB will be okay but its probably the least you need with Windows Vista its really good with Apple

A decent sized hard drive (HDD) so at least 80 GB, 120 or 160 GB would be better.
