  1. The castles Schloss Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee: many fabulous churches; the Glockenspiel; the Hofbräuhaus; Oktoberfest; flea markets; Oberammergau: Ettal: Innsbruck in Austria: drink beer; laugh and point at the Japanese tourists...

  2. the park referred to in another post is called the Englische Garten.

Even if it is very touristy you must see the Hofbrauhaus. Make sure you are there when the band is playing. They seem to take lots of breaks. The tables with table cloths are for people that want to order food. The tables marked Stammtisch are reserved.

I would also recommend shopping at Hertie near the hauptbahnhof.

The public transport is excellent and will get you anywhere in the city you want to go.

If you are travelling w/ kids there is a nice zoo. I also recommend the Olympiaturm which has a revolving restaurant at the top.

Standing around waiting for the Glockenspiel to do its thing is kind of boring what is more interesting is to look around at all the people visiting Munchen. This square is also frequently the site of peaceful protests again the war in Iraq and unemployment etc.

  3. Her in-Munich answers are good, and I'd specifically recommend the science & technology museum.  Also, check out the river surfers at the south end of the large park in the north-east corner of town where the pagoda is (I forget the name).

If you have time for a day trip, take the train to Garmisch-Partenkirken and ride a cablecar up to the Alpspitze or Zugzpitze.  You will not regret it.  The train ride there is scenic and you'll get a good rest on the way back to Munich.

  4. The Glokenspiel, the Olympic park, Haufbra Haus, The museums, the library where the n**i party had there headquarters, BMW factory, take a bus tour of munich, I think there's like 3 palaces where some royal family lived, there's a few nice parks too.

Outside of Munich,(I don't know how far it is from Munich) there's Landshut, a beautiful little town where the town center is set up like was 400 years ago, there's also a castle there where someone lives when there aren't tours going through it.

  5. You should see Dachau, along with what everyone else has said. It was a concentration camp. If you're a soccer fan, then Allianz arena is a must see, it looks like a spaceship. It's where Bayern Munich plays, and is the national stadium.
