I'm writing a small employee handbook that contain guidelines for waiters, store caretakers, chefs, janitors, etc. working for a restaurant.

Do you have any tips for them? Any good guidelines or referrals to a good employee handbook?

  1. Yes, especially if it is on the menu.

  2. good tip is between 15% and 20%

  3. In short, let all employees know your restaurant is the kind of place everyone's grandmama should be pleased to visit. And, every guest should be made to feel like everyone's very favorite, very special older relative, for whom everyone has VERY MUCH respect.

This means covering up tattoos, removing excess piercings, cleaning up standards of dress (NO busting the sag!), cleaning up the language, turning down the vocal volume, following all state and local sanitation and food handling rules.

Also, let all employees know each and every one of them is a part of the team that makes the restaurant successful, from the chefs to the janitors to the bookkeeper, etc. All y'all work together to make the business work! Be civil to each other.

  4. Above all you must have RESPECT for your management and for your co workers! Teamwork between ALL members of staff is essential. Being on time is a must! Tardiness shows total lack of respect for all members of the team. Health & Food guidelines MUST be followed, there is NO room for error in the restaurant industry. CUSTOMER satisfaction is THE most important thing.

    Hope that helps!
