What are good ways to practice Volleyball serving?

I'm taking a volleyball class at my college and this is very new to me! I am doing alright except I CAN NOT serve to save my life. It's hard to learn because we only meet 2 days a week. I want to practice this weekend at my gym but I need ti or things I can do to warm up and eventually get it down.

I'm right handed by the way. I think Ive only gotten the ball over the net twice the past month. Help?? It's embarrassing! Also - all the guys on the team seem to use a clenched fist and they ALWAYS get it over and it seems more powerful. I know this is wrong but when I try to use my palm Im not getting enough force?

How do I step? How many steps can I take or should I take? Please help!

  1. are you over hand serving???

well if you are you might want to just first work on your toss, let the ball hit the floor and try to toss it so it lands beside your left foot. when you get better at that practice your contact with the ball (flat open hand). have a strong solid contact. also you should contact the ball high keep arm stright this will get the ball over instead of in the net.just practice it will come. hope I helped

btw: I play highschool volleyball so I have done this lots.

  2. no no no!

i dont know what that girl is talking about.

you DO NOT hit it with your wrist!

toss the ball up with your right foot forward and right as it is going up step forward with you left foot.

and when the ball is where your hand reaches the highest, hit the ball hard, and slightely up, with the ball/heel/lower palm of your hand. whatever you wanna call it lol.

just focus on the ball! i used to SUCK at serving but it really takes practice! ask for help from your team too, good luck!

  3. Solution 1: under-hand serve.

Solution 2: over-hand serve with the lower part of your palm, but not wrist, definitely not with your fist.

To warm up, you throw the ball with one hand or two hands to your partner for about 2-5 minutes, then you hit the ball bouncing to your partner with your palm for another 5-10 minutes. When your partner has the ball, you stretch your body.

To practice over-hand serving, you start at the 10-ft line, serve 5-10 good ones before you move 5-ft back, till you reach the spot 5 ft behind the end line.

You don't do "step" when serving the ball. Start with your feet separate as wide as your shoulder, with non-serving shoulder pointing to the other "serving corner".  If you are right-hand hitter, your right shoulder >> left shoulder line should extend to the other teams "serving corner" (the old term, nowadays you can serve from behind the full 9-ft end line). Make sure you lock down your right foot and only slide your left foot forward when contacting the ball. Your left foot should be pointing to the area that you want your ball to land. Starting stance should be like an "arrow-bow" and you should toss the ball 0.5-ft in front of your right shoulder but not in front of your face.

  4. do it against a wall

and never ever ever use your fist!!

    u can hurt yourself

  5. ur not supposed to use your palm! im in sixth grade, and we're doing volleyball in gym, and i close my fist, but i don't hit with my fist. You're supposed to hit with your wrist. try it. it's much easier.

P.S. and you have to kinda hit it hard.
