  1. Definitely recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center.  One whole day can be spent there.  We also enjoyed taking a ride in a seaplane.  Here's the website: http://islandseaplane.com/index.html

  2. My Recommendations:

    Hike up Diamond Head

    Visit the Honolulu Zoo

Watch the lighting of the Tiki tourches in Waikiki

Visit the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor

Tour the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor

Tour the submarine USS Bowfin at Pearl Harbor

Shop at the swap meet at Aloha Stadium. You will find the best prices on your Hawaiian shirt and other merchandise there.

Go to the top of Aloha Tower, shop, and dine at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

    Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center

    Tour the Dole Pineapple Plantation

    Visit Maunalua Bay Beach Park

    Visit Koko Crater Botanical Garden

Go to Sunset On the Beach for free Hawaiian entertainment and a free movie. There are food vendors there as well.

Eat and shop at the International Market.

Enjoy a day at the beach.

Tour the island on the Bus. It’s one of the best ways to see the island.

Here is an excellent restaurant guide.

Pose for photos in front of the Duke Kahanamoku Statute. There is a live web cam there, so you can call one of your friends that are on the net, give them the address, and wave to them live.

Pick up the Oahu Saver book...you can find them everywhere...they have some good deals on Activities! Also download the 'Trip Advisor' site I gave above..

The Best way to get around is Public Transportation...Traffic on Oahu is outrageous...so I would only rent a car for a day or two to get to the other side of the Island..North Shore

  5. Wife and I spent 6 days in Oahu last year.   We spaced our activity days out with in-between days of just hanging around.  There is plenty to do; you won't run out of activities.  You may run out of ca$h.  It's pretty expensive.  The beach is free.  Gentle surf at Waikiki; big surf on the North Shore.  In planning our trip, I got the book "Oahu Revealed" by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman, and mostly followed their recommendations in picking whale cruise, restaurants, entertainment, places to visit.   Best shopping is along Kalakaua Ave.  You might just want to window shop along there: lots of expensive stores.

  6. You should take one day to go over to the Polynesian Cultural Center for a luau and night show, in Laie.

    Hanauma Bay snorkeling

    Diamond Head

    Pearl Harbor.

    6 days is good.

  7. Six days on Oahu will give you plenty of time to hit the high spots.  Some suggestions:

    Activities -

I like to hike & there are many easy to challenging hikes on Oahu, some of which are accessible by bus.  If you like to hike, just type "hiking Oahu" into your search box & you will get specific info including directions on how to get to the trail heads.  I like the Makapuu hike in eastern Oahu & Diamond head for the great views & the Judd trail in Nuuanu for the swimming hole & small waterfall (note: swim at your own risk - leptospirosis is a concern).

Sightseeing - drive around either the whole island or the eastern end, either one will give you lots of beautiful views of the mountains & ocean.  Be sure to check out the Pali lookout which gives you great views of windward Oahu.  Drive up Tantalus just behind the city to Pu'u Ualaka'a Park for a view of Honolulu.

Beaches - you can't come to Hawaii w/o going to the beach.  Some of my favorites are Kailua beach, Waimea Bay, Hanauma Bay, & the far eastern end of Waikiki opposite the park.  Hanauma Bay has great snorkeling.  You can rent equipment there; it is closed on Tuesdays.

I recently did a swim with the dolphins activity out in Waianae & while it was not a dolphin encounter such as you would have at Sea Life Park or the Kahala Hotel, it was still quite a kick.  We saw lots of green sea turtles too.

Lots of places with historical focus are worth the visit.  Pearl Harbor is a must see, but you should go early.  The Mighty Mo is just down the way & is pretty amazing.  Iolani Palace, the home of the Hawaiian monarchs, is a gem that most people never see.  It was the place they shot the scenes for the HQ on Hawaii 5-0.

Misc: We have a pretty good zoo, a decent aquarium, and Art on the Fence, where local artists show & sell their wares on the fence outside the zoo on the weekends.  All are located at Kapiolani Park.

Shopping: Not really my thing, but there are lots of options.  For souveneirs & inexpensive jewelry or t-shirts, try the International Marketplace in Waikiki, any ABC Store, or the swap meet at Aloha Stadium.  There are boutique type stores in Waikiki, at the Ward Center, Ward Warehouse, or the Aloha Tower Marketplace.  The biggest mall, Ala Moana Center is just a bit west of Waikiki with good bus service connecting the two.

    Restaurants:

Inexpensive: Kakaako Kitchen at Ward Center (very ono - tasty - take out), Zippy's (a local version of Denny's), Eggs & Things (terrific omlettes & pancakes), Diamond Head Grill on Monsarrat (also take out), for Chinese, Maple Garden/King Tsin & for Thai, Mekong.

Moderate: the Willows (buffet with a wide variety of foods, including Hawaiian - very pretty location on a small artesian spring), Tsukiji Fish Market at Ala Moana Ctr (buffet featuring Japanes food, but other stuff too), Kona Brewing Co in Hawaii Kai (great beers!),  E&O Trading Co for a wide variety of Asian cuisines, & Kincaids for fish.

Expensive: Michels's (French), Roy's or Indigo (Pacific Rim Cuisine),

Hope you have a wonderful vacation here!

  8. First of all a life time is int enough to experience it all but yes 6 days is great. i was born on oahu and raised there for 20 years. The best place to go for a active vacation on oahu is Waikiki the best shopping, shows, restaurants, luau's and hotels are all there. the city its self is beautifully and the history is fascinating. plenty to do never board and wont find a hotel more then a 10 min walk from the famous waikiki beach. I mean this town is the place to be prices are ok and worth it. 10 minutes from ala moana mall for 5 star shopping and restaurants. also at the end of the waikiki strip there diamond head, where you can see it all, from duke kahanumoku's pool to down town honolulu. 6 days in waikiki you could enjoy shows, food, surf, boats that will take you from the beach out to see the dolphins and turtles and refresh your self with a tropical cocktail. Bottom line go to waikiki. your guaranteed to have a great time and want to go back. e-mail me if you want details il help you out. good luck and ALOHA!
