  1. OK,one more time.....

  2. A greenhouse gas is any gas present in Earth's atmosphere that is transparent to shortwave radiation from the sun and opaque to longwave radiation from Earth.

Greenhouse gases affect the planet's temperature by effectively reducing the emissivity of Earth's atmosphere. More simply, they affect the rate at which radiation is able to escape from the atmosphere to space.

The temperature of an object is determined by the rate the object is receiving energy versus the rate it's losing energy (cooling). If the object is losing energy faster than it's getting it, it will cool, if it's getting energy faster than it's losing it, it will warm. If the ratio of incoming to outgoing energy us equal, the object will remain at a constant temperature and is said to be in "thermal equlibrium."

Greenhouse gases work by slowing the rate energy can escape the space, and thus warm the planet. When Earth receives energy from the sun and reradiates it as long wave radiation, some of it escapes to space and some is absorbed by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The gases radiate some of the energy upward to space, but they also radiate some of the energy back toward Earth, warming it.

Of course, the above is a simple explanation that doesn't take factors like convection and the height of the atmosphere into account. For a more detailed explanation I recommend reading through the sites provided in my sources.

  3. I believe there are 4 types of gases... makes me mad that I cant remember them.

  4. I think greenhouse gases is the cause of climate change , something like somewhere flooded more often than before.

  5. That's all the exhaust from the cars, factories etc.  It makes a barrier over the earth.   This traps all the gases causing the earth's temperature to rise.

  6. the main greenhouse gasses.

methane, ozone, nitrogen oxides (N2O NO NO2), water, CFCs and HFCs.

greenhouse gasses lower the amount of heat escaping into space. this is called the greenhouse effect. the greenhouse effect keeps the earth a good 20 degrees warmer then it would be without greenhouse gasses.

more greenhouse gasses cause the earth to warm by enhancing the greenhouse effect. this prevents more heat from escapeing from the earth and so the earth will warm.
