What are gums and isomers?

I am taking a psychology class and we are talking about drugs. He has asked for us to fiund out what isomers and gums are. I found isomers but I am havig trouble finding gums besides in relation to tree sap. HELP

could it have something to do with chewing gum used as a method of disbursing such as in anti-smoking nicotine gums?  Often using isomers of the medication for easy or time released absorption?
