I really want a pair of half-chaps! I'm a western rider now all I wear are jeans and paddock boots, are half-chaps only for english riders or are they for western riders too? My friend says they would look to englishy (she doesent ride and doesent know anything about horses, amd hates english riders for some reason?) I really want to buy some!!! should I gewt them or not and what would their purpose be for a western rider's use?

  1. Half chaps just protect your legs.  If you ride with paddock boots in an english saddle, the chaps protect your legs where the field boots normally would...because the english saddle can easily pinch your upper calf.  For a western rider, it will do the same thing, protect your legs.  I used to wear them when trail riding, because they would keep me from getting my legs scratched up (I rode in the desert, and the horses would occasionally bump me into a cactus).  If you like them, and think they will help you somehow, just go for it.

  2. they keep your legs from being pinched when your in just

boots they're amazing in my eyes and there is no reason you couldn't use them they are look more as english wear but who really cares if your just riding at home full chaps get way too hot. If you do decide to get them i suggest the zipper ones over the velcro i was afraid they would break but they actually last longer

  3. Half chaps would work well for any rider that is riding with low boots. It's not just an english thing. I know plenty of western riders that use them as well. The only trouble you may run into is getting your jeans situated right inside the chaps. Really all they do is add an extra layer of protection between your leg and the fender.
