    Below is from BA

    General  restriction

Customers travelling from or through a UK airport are asked to ensure they comply with the new hand baggage restrictions, put in place by the UK government, to prevent delays at airport security search points.

    Before leaving for the airport:

All customers are strongly encouraged to update their bookings with contact details so that we can contact you if we need to. Use Manage My Booking  to add an e-mail address or mobile number to your booking.

Customers are also advised to check in online to help reduce queues at the airport.  If you have checked in online and have baggage to check into the hold, simply go to the fast-bag drop when you arrive at the airport.

Customers checking in at UK airports are asked not to arrive before their flight opens for check in to help prevent further congestion at the airport.  This is:-

three hours before departure for longhaul flights

two and a half hours for shorthaul flights from London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports

one and a half hours for shorthaul flights from other UK regional airports.

All customers are asked to ensure they have sufficient time to clear security as this is taking longer than normal due to the additional checks.

If you are travelling to the USA you should provide your Advance Passenger Information before arriving at the airport.  You can do this through the Manage My Booking facility.

    At the airport:

If your cabin bag exceeds the new dimensions or contains prohibited items, you will be asked to repack it or check it into the hold.  This may cause you an unnecessary delay.

If you have large electrical goods (eg laptops, digital cameras etc) in your hand baggage, please ensure these are easily accessible as you will be required to remove them for x-ray screening.

    Hand baggage restrictions:

For an update on items that can and cannot be carried as hand baggage on all UK departing flights, please click here.

Some airports around the world may be implementing their own restrictions.  Details can be found here.

Though customers who then transfer through, or return from, the UK must comply with the UK Department for Transport requirements, including allowing one cabin bag no bigger than 45cm x 35cm x 16cm.

    Frequently asked questions:

We have put together some of the most frequently asked questions, based on the latest information from the UK government and BAA, to help customers understand in more detail what they can and cannot take in their cabin baggage on flights from the UK.

  7. no. smoking kills

  8. cigarettes yes but theoretically you can't take lighters although I've never been stopped.

One question, you aren't thinking of taking cigs into Spain are you? They are so cheap here that would be silly. Taking them bacvk is fine and you can easily take at 16 cartons of 200 without any bother.
