I would be very careful using herbal remedies. You could be giving your horse something harmful. Like herbal remedies for humans there is no evidence that they work or are safe. Some don't even contain what they claim they do. If use use the wrong type or your horse gets too much of one it could prove toxic. I would go with what a vet recommends.

Without knowing any of the symptoms it's hard to suggest  what "herbal" remedies might help.
