Well, that depends. If you're riding western, they're usually called 'chaps'.

If you're riding English, you either want 'jodhpurs' or 'breeches'. I tend to go with breeches, myself, because they're more comfortable. In horse racing, they're called 'silks'.

I guess I'm just too much in to laid back redneck living to wear fancy riding britches so I call my riding pants blue jeans. Just regular old wrangler jeans. The ladies here are right though about those jodpurs pants.
