  1. I've read the other answers and most just following the stigma behind them. They are made from carefully selected parts of a pig and/or cow. They are NOT the ears, snouts, or anuses. The ingredients vary by brand, but most contain spices, cereals, pork/beef.  U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires that the meats used must be wholesome and high quality just like ground beef, steaks, roasts, ect. Some of these parts are left overs but from meats that we regularly consume, that might be hard to market because of size, weght, cut ect.

  2. You don't wanna know.

  3. I love hot dogs too...sad to say b/c they are gross! I've heard that it's all the extra meats i.e. from the head, etc.

my friends used to say "lips n a******s"

  4. snouts

  5. Depends on the brand and kind.  Can be beef, pork, chicken, turkey, or even tofu.

I think what you're getting at is WHAT PART of the cow, pig, chicken, turkey, whatever is in the dog?  In general, you can assume that it's any part of the animal (with a few specific exceptions).  Which is not necessarily a bad thing.  Many cultures believe that you shouldn't waste anything, and will eat pretty much any part of the animal.  Much of it, in fact, tastes good.  Is there any reason to find lips gross, but you're perfectly happy eating the side of the animal?  In the end, it's meat.  If you can deal with the concept of eating pieces of an animal, what does it matter what part of animal it is... as long as it's safe and tastes good.

Some brands, include fillers, which can be grain based.

People like to talk about how the government allows rodent hair, animal droppings, and other yucky things into the dogs.  Turns out, these things are present in most food.  Hot dogs just get a bum rap.  You see, it's not like they have a big vat of rat droppings and then mix it into the dog.  What's really happening is that foreign matter, which exists in the atmosphere, on the surface of the meats, and what's stuck to the other ingredients is included, albeit in very small quantities, in the food.

Trust me, pick apart that $20 steak and you'll find stuff there that's not steak.

Advice: buy a good brand and enjoy.

  6. Meat, plain and simple. Beef, pork, chicken, and/or turkey. There are no lips, hooves, eyes, or any of the other disgusting things some people would like you to believe. A lot of folks freak-out at the term "mechanically separated meat" because they think it means something un-natural or alien but it's just when high-pressure water is used to blast meat off the bone.

Then of course there are a bunch of scary things like paprika, garlic, salt (okay there is usually way too much sodium in hot dogs, but the same can be said about most foods).

Nothing to make you say eewwwwwwwwww.

  7. All the leftover junk from the animal it's made from.  There are chicken, pork and beef mixed dogs, just beef dogs, just pork dogs..etc..

The meat and fat and ground bones are mixed with seasoning and then obviously stuffed into casings which could either be from animal intestines or not...You just never know what you are getting.  But I also admit I LOVE Nathans and Hebrew National dogs.  I only eat beef dogs but it's still all junky stuff.

ok so a brand that makes kosher hot dogs is Hebrew national...there isn't any by products and dyes put into it...good luck

  10. Lips and A$$H*(es all conveniently stuffed in to a portion of intestine.. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  11. undercarriage parts i believe, but sadly i love them also. just close your mind................

  12. I love hot dogs to and what is in side of it is like scrapes from other meat and they mush it and they put it in like a blanket and they have a kind of like a s***w driver thing like it has a cross to hold the meat in side

  13. there is a lot of food products that are made with yucky disgusting things in them. But we still eat it.Because we are a nation of hungry people.Just slap on some mustard,or relish,or ketchup,or horseradish on it and enjoy anyways.

  14. ok when i asked my dad this same question he replied " well here is the story the butchers take the pig and cut it open. then they take out the meat for bacon, pepperoni, pork chops, and ect... then he sed when they are all done with the pig they pick up all the scaps off the ground and put it on the butchers table. then they form hot dogs out of the left over scraps. and cook it . then they sell it. so that is how hot dogs are made......some hot dogs are made out of turkey though. usually oscar myer hot dogs are safe if u still want to eat hot dogs after learing how they are made.
