  1. A hot spring is a  source of water flowing that emerges onto the surface of the earth from underground that has been heated by contact with hot or molten rock a natural spring that puts out water warmer than body temperature and therefore feels hot; may collect in pools or flow into streams an lakes, groundwater seeps into a mountain and flows deep into the earth's interior. It is heated, pressurized, loaded with minerals and percolates.

Speaking about the world hot springs I would like to draw your attention to the most popular countries where many hot springs are located, namely New Zealand and Iceland. First of all, it's necessary to admit that hot spring term covers anything connected with geothermal water (which includes not only hot springs themselves, but also geysers and even mud pools). New Zealand is a country made of two large islands and a great number of smaller islands located in the Pacific Ocean. There are lots of various New Zealand hot springs which are known almost all over the world. They include not only Maruia, Rotorua and Hanmer hot springs, but also some primitive ones having no facilities and proper development and just gushing the hot water naturally. One of the best places to visit in New Zealand is considered to be "Welcome Flat hot pools" - one of the well-known world hot springs. This place contains four large pools digging the ground. Each pool has different temperature and contains different amounts of various minerals and salts. With soaking the hot pools the person gets an opportunity to see dynamic mountain scenery. It's unforgettable! The second best place in New Zealand is called "The hot water stream" in Taupo. It is accessible from the town of Taupo by walking. It's interesting to admit that all of the stream water is always hot! Another well-known New Zealand hot spring is called "Kerosine Greek". If you have such an opportunity, we advice you to visit at least one of the mentioned world hot springs to experience all their beneficial features. Speaking about Iceland hot springs, I can't but say that this country is flooded by geothermal activity. It is seen in the form of water springs often taped for outdoor swimming pools or even heating houses and more. Iceland hot springs belong to the well-known world hot springs which vastly improve the quality of living and make the place more interesting both for domestic and foreign tourists. One of the most popular hot springs areas in Iceland is Haukadalur explained as "the valley of hawks". The majority of people consider this place to be one of the biggest, most exciting and impressive places in the whole world. The eruptions of this place are known to reach the highest level! However, according to the world hot springs statistical data, Deildartunguhver is still the world's largest yielding hot spring! Part of this water is often used for heating up the town located near-by (Akranes and Borgarnes). The whole area where this hot spring is located belongs to one great geothermal place. For obvious reasons, you are likely to find quite a lot of greenhouses there. As it has already been mentioned, the Iceland's second largest geyser is called Haukadalur. It is the most frequently erupting one (almost every few minutes the geyser goes off). The area around this hot spring contains a couple of smaller geysers, hot pools, mud pools and much more. Other popular Iceland hot springs include Krisuvik, Námaskarð (in the East of Iceland) and Landmannalaugar.

  3. Hot springs are a natural occurrence underground caused by a geothermal underground spring. We have them here in Calistoga. In fact our swimming pool is heated this way. We add cold water to the pool water to get the temp down to 86 degrees. It comes out of the ground at about 300 degrees. I know both California and Arizona have a lot of hot springs, but I do not know where most of them are. People come here to Calistoga from all over the world to experience the hot springs, We also have a geyser here. The town of Calistoga is called the hot springs of the west. By the way, this town is in the Napa valley.
