i have this project about hybrid cars but before i continue i need to know how they are good for the economy.

so these are the questions i would like answered:

1. what do they do for the economy?

2. how do the differ from regular cars?

3. which is better for the economy (duh the hybrid)?

4. how do hybrid cars work?

5. how do gas fueled cars work?

**you don't have to answer them all i just need to know the basics ya digg?! but just please give me all and any info. you know on a hybrid.**

p.s.: if you have any hybrid cars that you'd like to recommend please feel free...i need all the help i could get

  1. hybrids add jobs at battery production plants, and at waste disposal plants, along with recycling plants. a vehicle with only an internal combustion engine operates by turning heat pressure and energy into rotating motion to produce work to power an automobile, aircraft, or even a stationary generator or pump. a hybrid operates by taking a smaller internal combustion engine, and pairing it in parallel with an electric motor. when the car doesnt need the extra power, the gas engine remains shut off. when you accelerate the gas engine turns on and adds it power to the drive train to get the car up to speed. at low speeds(below 30mph) you would be running on electric power only, and the gas engine would be used just to charge the batteries. above 30mph and the gas engine supplies the motive force, and the electric motor supplies an assist as needed.

    some issues with hybrid cars;

    the batteries used are toxic to the environment, be they nmih or lithium ion, or even lead acid batteries. they can all be recycled, and they can also be PROPERLY disposed of which means you cant just toss them into a land fill and walk away.

    hybrid cars are much more expensive than an equivalent non hybrid car, on the order of $5000-6000 more.

    when the battery pack needs replacing it will be expensive, dont let anyone fool you about that.

    hybrids are the IN thing right now, but people will realize that they are not all they are cracked up to be, and sales will slow.

    as far as i am concerned a much better solution would be to build a hybrid car that uses a small gas powered generator to just keep the batteries charged and power the electrical system as needed, and maybe even run an a/c unit. all motive force however would come from an electric motor. this way you would have a very small displacement engine tuned for less than 15hp to produce a very small amount of combustion emissions, and you can do away with the complex drive train for a parallel hybrid and go with a series hybrid. you still ahve the issues with the batteries though.
