  1. Who are "we?"

What kind of class is this homework for--EMT, lifeguard, nurse, radiology technician?

Surely they gave you a book with this class...?

  2. For yourself, make sure first that you have enough help to roll a patient. It often takes two people. Generally speaking, you would first pull the patient to one side of the bed (the side that he is currently facing as he lies on his side) ideally using a drop sheet which under the patient. Make sure the brakes are engaged on the bed, ensure that there is sufficient slack in any tubes the patient has (O2, catheter, IV, etc.) before you start moving him. When you pull the patient near the side of the bed, bend your knees and use your legs as much as possible, and the large muscles in your back and chest. Once he is positioned near the edge of the bed, go to the opposite side and roll the patient gently toward you so that he is now on his opposite side. Again, bend the knees, and use the large muscles to avoid straining yourself. Did I mention to make sure you have enough help?
