Be it from electronics innovations up to teaching techniques. Innovations or I mean anything but we just have to make it something very new, to help improve nursery schools within our community.

  1. Have you checked the Penn Green AND eMILLIO rEGGIO websites for inspriration in teaching styles. The penn green is active in involving parents and has a fantastic outside play area and resources to capture the imagination of any preschool worker and Emillio Reggio is based in Italy and believes that children should be able to explore their environment freely with teachers following the lead, they calll the environment the third teacher.

    Also consider the critcal thinking and creative development children develop from playing with loose parts, by this is mean, pieces of equipment such as pipes funnels cones srpings buckets planks sticks etc, to come up with innovative play and investigation ideas. These items are usually free if you involve parents and ues your local scrap store and are much more useful at fostering children's creativity than pre determined resources with limiteds scope, by this i mean the loose materials are open ended in their use rather like heuristic play materials and treasure baskets.

    Hope i have given you some good ideas.

  2. Is music a part of the daily experience?

    *songs for transitions and walking in lines;

    *music and movement at circle time;

    *mini lessons about instruments and types of music; *musicians coming in to share their talents;

    *homemade instruments by the children;

    *soft music at naptime;

    *theme-based songs learned weekly; etc.

  3. I agree with the answer regarding music. That's one thing that REALLY helps the younger ones.  For instance, when we take our toddlers on walks around the building (inside) we have a song that keeps them together with their teacher-so that they don't run wild :) I would also say that it would be REALLY nice to be able to have two staff present in every room. =)

  4. totally agree with the reggio idea.

    having worked in a  reggio based facility  one for a short time before i became a middle school teacher it opened my mind as to how far  a kid can  explore ...
