What are job prospects like in Dunedin for technologically savvy US immigrants?

I realize that Auckland is the place to be for the tech jobs, but I would never move there. I'm all for the South Island and dream of the day that I break free from this nonsensical country. So, are there companies and/or agencies who promote college educated immigrants like myself?

  1. I think you'd prefer Christchurch.

    http://seek.co.nz/ for jobs.

  2. zero

  3. Your chances are good.

Check the online edition of the Otago Daily Times for vacancy ads, and the yellow pages will give you a list of the various companies.

  4. Dunedin is a fantastic town, it's becoming a very popular place to move to from other parts of NZ and from overseas....I would look at the University; see website below... also I would search on google for jobs of your expertise, in dunedin, nz  and it should come up with a list of jobs available in this area...there are a number of large organisations which would assist you coming to Dunedin if you were accepted for a position.  Good Luck!

  5. Kia Ora, D.S.,

As advised by others, check the Otago Daily Times as well as the University of Otago and the Polytech vacancies (links below).

I just read 3 ads for an IT administrators at the Uni.

    Here are the links:

FYI, there are opportunities for free lancing or developing your own business, from what I have seen.  By this I mean I have been on many NZ websites and many of them leave a lot to be desired - misspellings, dead links, in need of an update --  this includes a lot of the Government web pages.

If I wasn't studying full time I'd seriously consider doing some free-lance web design and maintenance.

If you decide to pursue this option, you will most likely have your choice of several positions.  However, don't expect to make the big bucks - but consider it a trade off for being able to live in Paradise.

And on the side, in the past three months I have welcomed five new American immigrants to Dunedin.

There are also several job sites - I'll list them below.

Best of luck and let us know how you make out

    =)
