  4. You mean police K9?  Most are German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois..

Police have also used breeds like dobermans, rotts, beauceron, filas, presa canario, etc.

I have seen a lab mix used as a drug dog..   many bloodhounds, beagles, bassetts, etc are used as drug dogs or for search and rescue.

  5. LOL!!!!

  6. k9 is short for canine, which is all dogs.

although, you may be talking about k9 police units. those are usually german shepherds.

  7. Do you mean police dogs? Most are Belgian malinois or German shepherds.

  8. k9 just means canine.  Mainly when they refer to k9 like on TV or whatever, they are referring to police dogs, which are generally German Shepard's, but not all the time. You could call any dog a K9 however.

  9. I think i remember Dr Who having one and it having a very shiny coat

  10. mainly German Shepherds

  11. Every dog is a K9.

  12. K9 is short for the genus name Canis.

All dogs apply including wolves and such.

  13. all dogs are canines, but if you are talking about police dogs

    german shepherds

    belgian shephreds

    beagles

    bloodhounds

    labs

    pitbulls

    mixed breeds

it mainly depends on what the dog is being used for, basset hounds bloodhounds, and beagles are used for cadavar dogs/ search and rescue will mostly some labs and shepherds are to, but not as highly counted on as hounds.

as trained attack police gernerally use:

    german shepherds

    belgian shepherds

labs and pits are used for all of the above usually search and rescue though.

  14. As in K9 police dogs?  Lots of different breeds are used for police work.  German shepherds, belgian malinois, and labrador retrievers are probably the most common breeds used for police work in the United States.  But there are many other breeds that are suitable for police work and are used in police forces around the world.

  15. If you mean K9 as in police/military working dogs depends on the country. The most common are

    - Belgian Malinois

    - German Shepherd Dog (different lines available)

    - Dutch Shepherd

    - Rottweiler

    - Dobermann

    Some less common breeds

    - Bouvier de Flandres

    - Presa Canario

    - Black Russian Terrier

    In a sniffer type capacity

    - Belgian Malinois

    - Labrador

    - Beagle

    - Bloodhound

    - Staffordshire Bull Terrier

    - Rescue dogs/cross breeds with high drive

  16. k9 is referring to Canine, which is all dogs.

But for police units the K9 unit is the dogs that like sniff out things, find the bad guys. Ect.

  17. K9 is the same thing as Canine which is the same thing as dog.  So, all breeds of dogs are K9's.
