  1. First of all, Jimmy that made me laugh, even if it wasn't fair.

Secondly, it depends on the style.  ISKF tournaments (International Shotokan Karate Federation) are so cool!  I've been a member of the ISKF for 11 years now, and competing for all of them, and they're really great.  Sensei Okazaki is the highest ranking living practitioner of Shotokan in the world, and he comes to the tourneys.  You get to see his nephew, and all his students compete, and it's just the best thing in the world.  You can learn so much from just sitting and watching these amazing men and women, it's mind blowing.  It's supposed to be "No contact", but that really just means don't break anything on your opponent.  There are no pads, the only protection is a mouth guard and sparring gloves, so a big thing is control, and managing to get your fist 1/8 of an inch away from your opponents face, but not hitting them.  Sorry to rant, but it really is an amazing experience.

  2. Boring...see for yourself

I see what Jimmy means by wait...wait...wait. Then touch. Now break and back to ready.

  3. Wait....wait.....wait.....wait.....wait.... technicality, you lose.

  4. Your best bet is to look thru YouTube. The vids will make much more sense than a bunch of words.

But be warned that it really depends on the associations you belong to. There are lots of different types of tournaments and different rules and judging.

Wish I could help you more..but the possibilities are endless....
