What are kids playing on the playground right now??

Question

I'm currently teaching a grade 3 student from Korea, who doesn't know many vocabulary words and consequently has trouble making friends on the playground. I figure if I can help him learn a game that all the kids are playing, he would have some more social tools to make school more enjoyable for him. When I was young it was marbles, pogs and magic cards, but I don't want to teach him something that the other kids think is totally lame! let me know if you have any suggestions.

at my kids' school it's soccer and dodgeball.

Talk to his teacher and/or school counselor. That's what they are there for. They may even have activities for him to do to help him socially. As for the games, at our school it changes with the weather and is different from year to year.

Teather ball, Volley ball ( make all these balls kinda soft though), Baseball, Tag, Freeze Tag, Hide and Go Seek, Handball, Jumprope, Chinese Jumprope, Chinese Handball, and Dodge Ball.

A lot of kids that I use to see and still do (even in HS) are playing 4-Square, and Butts Up. Where someone chucks a ball at the wall and you have to run there before it hits the wall. Thats Butts Up. Also Tag and Just doing relay races. Good luck, hope that helps :)

Are there any other kids in his class that are friendly towards him? Maybe ask them to help teach him a game. It is better for them to learn these things from the other kids.
