  1. I have never heard about filipino wines...but..are there any grapes in Philippines??

  2. there's no such thing as filipino wines made from grapes.  since the location of philippines is in tropical region.... it's not a wine producing region.  what we have is some local wines made of mango or our very own version of local wine made of coconuts and some from sugar cane other exotic fruits. Locally we have lambanogs here.

  3. As others said already, no wine from grapes at the moment - even though grapes are grown in northern Luzon.

The "fruit wines" include Mango and Strawberry (Baguio region) and are quite sweet.

The only traditional wine is TUBA, made from the palm leaf ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_wine ). It is most common in the rural areas of the Philippines. Too sweeten it, it is often mixed with cola or royal :))

TUBA is often distilled into a liquor of different strength and quality and is then called Lambanog.

Similar is the fermented rice wine already mentioned and of course, a tremendous number of imported wines (some good quality) is available in stores in Manila.

    Hope this answers your question.
