Liberal arts is a term used in schools and university to refer to all arts progams usually including visual arts and performing arts. so painters, sculpturs, actors, singers, graphic artists,and etc. all fall under this title.  And is usually the first program to get cuts when budgets are short  because people in this country  prefer sports instead.


  2. They are the seven arts the Greeks used to study, divided in 3 from the "trivium" 4 from the "quadrivium" :

    Trivium: grammar, rhetoric, dialectic.

    Quadrivium: arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy.

  4. In modern use, they're anything that isn't math, science or engineering.  Social sciences may or may not be included in "liberal arts."  

    It's stuff like languages, literature, journalism, art, music, history.  Sometimes education, political science, sociology, anthropology.  

    In some countries, the liberal arts departments of a university are combined into the "School of Letters."
