What are little brown spots on my cat?

My dad found a stray cat and was touching it and feeding it. Like the dummy he is he didn't see the specks on it until i came out. The tiny specks were moving and there were also some white larvae crawling in and out of the fur. What are these? I don't think they're fleas because fleas move real fast and these specks were moving slowly. Please let me know because I need to find out how to cleanse my dad so he doesn't get an infestation. Thanks.

  1. TICS! i think you need to go to the vet with the cat and your dad needs to go to the doctor! and fast!

  2. Probably fleas and their larvae.

  3. Lice are slower moving, so are maggots.  Maggots are fairly large and usually white.  Cats with open sores attract flies who lay their eggs in the injury, it's nasty.

Can humans pick up parasites from cats?  Absolutely.  Mites are fairly species specific - that means that dog mites like dogs, cat mites like cats, etc... But lice and other critters are not as picky.

Many parasites spend time OFF the pet, so you may need to clean the home wherever the cat was.  Take her to the vet and have her checked out and treated, rescued kitties make wonderful pets.
