you can get very low temps by turning cointainers of compressed gas upside down and squirting that into a bowl or something in that nature. co2 works very well. especially fire extingushers and computer keypad air cans co2 makes a powder that is -109 degrees F. if you crush the powder you can make dry ice this is the only relatively safe way.

Mix salt and ice.  Farenheit based his "0" on the coldest temperature he could make with this method.
