  1. After the civil war ended in 1991, there was a lot of crime committed b/c hoodlums kept a hold on many firearms.  The violent crime level seems to have improved within the last couple of years or so but they do still suffer peaks and lows.

Also, the introduction of US dollars into El Salvador's currency may have poised an economic strain since housing & living costs went up but overall population salary did not.  The currency rate is 8.75 colon per US Dollar.

Cheap labor is keeping minimum wage down since cheap labor is obtain from workers from even poorer countries like Nicaragua and Honduras.

So this caused Savadoran families to be split since the husband is more likely to leave his family for work in the U.S. than find low wage work in El Salvador.  This, I'm sure, ahs a cause-and-effect to the entire family structure.

I've vacationed there quite a few times and I love the food, the scenery, the weather, and beach resorts, and towns of this country.  I hope only for the best for the people of this vibrant, gentle country.

  2. **Gangs and Poverty

  3. I would say thieves and gangs but also lack of proper schooling and general poverty.
