  1. I would like to see less packaging in shopping centre products, and where there is packaging there, provide recycling collection at the point (e.g. fast food packaging just thrown in bins.

Where there is packaging, it should be made recyclable - by legislation. Quite simply, products with packaging which cannot be recycled banned from import.

Now in terms of being energy efficient, there would need to be a energy efficiency rating on products to show how much energy was consumed when it was produced and shipped. For example:

    1. How much heavy fuel was used to ship the raw materials to china for that plastic doll (or whatever).

    2. How much fuel was used to produce it in the factory.

    3. How much fuel was used to get it to markets?

    4. How much energy is used marketting it on TV and the such?

    5. How much energy is released when it degrades?

When you look at it this way, producing locally in Australia is likely the more energy efficient way?

  2. If you're sending a letter to parliament you should demand that all anti-nuclear policies be removed because that's really the only way to get significant improvement.

Of course considering that both major parties have a lot of vested interests in fossil fuels (labor wanted to keep those coal miners in work and the liberals being funded by some coal interests) there's probably not much hope for Australia to actually lower emissions for another decade (and don't expect the greens to want to save the planet, confusing them with environmentalists is also a bad idea as well).

Oh and you might also want to ask them to set some real standards for carbon offsetting to prevent them just being frauds (and to hold their greenpower fraud to those standards) but that would result in carbon offsetting disappearing (since no one would actually pay if they could help when you consider how much they'd be paying).

  3. Outsource everything to India

  4. light effuincent bulbs

turning off appliances that are not beigin used E.g light bulbs

    try using less power

    switching to an environment power

    using sloar pannels

  5. While individuals can focus on small items - CFL, riding a bike, car pooling, install solar panels, etc. Government can do and should a lot more. The government should be looking at the large scale of things:

City and community planning - to encourage people live closer to work or bring work closer to people to reduce commuting transportation needs.

    Integrated transportation system

Update building codes to encourage more efficient energy usage for commercial and private buildings

Look into manufacturing sectors to identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvement. Lots of times the better technology is there but the industry is slow to adapt due to cost consideration.

  6. The best way to be energy effecent in Australia is to install a goverment that has real goals and policies pertaining to the environment rather than a government that uses media generated scare tactics and a rediculous carbon credit scheme that is nothing more than another revenue gathering tax.

  7. go to google and search: green energy, green living, save energy etc.

  8. Well, it's more a question of what the people with the money can do.

But for starters natural gas conversions on cars (which are already subsidised I think), or making it mandatory for new cars to run on gas or a petrol/electric motor would be a start.

Converting all public buses to gas or biodiesel would be a huge help - but extremely costly for councils I would imagine.

Pushing biodiesel should be somehow more structured - all that oil out there that could be recycled!  My partner runs his van on old heating oil!

There's some great innovations on using natural light - just ask the Amish - it should be madatory that new buildings make better use of this bountiful resource to reduce lighting energy consumption.

It disgusted me when they were running the "lights out for an hour on a Wednesday night" or something like that in Australia for office blocks, etc.  Why the h**l are all the lights on in empty buildings anyway???  I'm sure the cleaners know how to use a light switch!  A night light tax on wasteful businesses?

Packaging of products with recyclable materials should be compulsory.  Bring in a tax on c**p packaging!

Target big businesses!!!  Especially Coles and Woolies.  Did you know that bananas picked in northern Qld are transported by truck to Victoria to a central dispatch area, where they are then stored and diverted back to Qld!  True story.  Doesn't take a genuis to see where the energy savings could be there.

There's already a voluntary scheme up and running in some areas (I know the Sunshine Coast is one) where restaurants and cafes commit to buying produce from farmers or suppliers within a 100km radius in an effort to support local businesses and reduce transport.  I think a greater emphasis on these sorts of schemes is needed.

I'm sorry, I could rabbit on all night - hope I've given you a few ideas.

  9. have a one day ban on car and close all shops as well  it would save money and help with pulation

  10. I'd like all local councils to install solar street lights and to recycle the old street lighting. I'd also like a reduction in the amount of lighting and to have sensors so that the light onl comes on with movement, especially in less populated areas like gardens and bus stops. Side streets etc.

I'd also like then to use recycled materials for building public facilities and to stop renevating and 'improving' that takes rescourse that we can save on.

There's too much building going on!!

    Stop using big machinery,

and consider the energy used to do things, work out better alternatives including doing nothing.

bury stuff, from garden clean ups, helping co2 to be increased in the soil. And lets plant more trees.
