Freshman year: 1.0 (my dad died, I was depressed)

Sophomore year: 2.2456 (my mother re-married)

Junior Year: 4.28

Senior year: 4.61

Unweighted: Like 2.7 (not sure)

Weighted: 3.0

How would my application look, and what do you think my chances of being accepted into NYU are?

  1. I hate to be honest but your chances are slim to none. The average unweighted GPA is a 3.6. I know people who didn't get in who had a 3.7 with good SAT scores. On the application tho, you can explain why you got low grades. You excuses are actually good ones, so that could go in your favor. I would transfer to NYU, and go to a smaller college or a community college, first. I personally believe you care about you school work, but things got in your way. NYU may see this, but the chances now are not good. I would look at some other colleges in the area. How about a SUNY or CUNY? I would go there, and then transfer over. You may also go their for grad school. Good Luck, and I'm sorry to hear about your father.


  2. No, GPA is the single most important factor. NYU is simply too hot right now to bend their standards, the are turning away 80% of applicants. Do well senior year and at a decent state school freshman year of college and you should have no trouble transferring.
