I have a 3.5 GPA for sophomore and Junior year (because freshman doesn't matter at U of M) and a 4.2 weighted GPA for the same 2 years.

So far I have taken AP Physics C: Mechanics and Electricity and Magnatism, AP European History, AP Calculus AB and BC and AP Chemistry. (I got a 5 on all of them but U of M doesn't look at that when excepting people they said)

Also senior year I am taking AP psychology, AP stats, dual enrolling in: Calculus 3, differential calculus, thermodynamics and another chemistry class (all are sophomore level classes in college)

As you can possibly see from my AP classes and college courses I am planning to go into the college of Engineering.

I got an ACT score of 31, but I am retaking it in September (but just evaluate me for the 31)

Next year, I should also be president of chess club and some sort of officer at computer club (we havent had our voting yet but I'm pretty sure I can get something).

I also did study abroad this summer over in China (ya, just missed the Beijing Olympics) for 3 weeks.

I also did a triathlon this summer but im not sure if they really care about that (i figure I'll put it down for additional info though, because that does make me somewhat unique)

My class rank is somewhere in the top quarter I believe but I don't know exactly where.

I really really think my only real flaw is my GPA, but do you think my other stuff can carry me at all (i know that study abroad is a pretty big deal for a highschooler). THANK YOU!!

  1. sure since u live in michigan u ave a really good shot. But one thing i think they really like is when u play sports. Obviously academics are number one, but the kids in my school( on the east coast not in michigan) that have got in either played sports and were a captain or some leadership role. I got into U of M but didnt play sports, but i think it was because of my academics that were pretty good. I did have a high gpa and high standardized test scores. those helped a lot. SO i think if u have a good balance of athletics and very good academics then u should be a shoe in.

    Pc and good luck

  2. I'd say that you have a good shot if you are a Michigan resident and are borderline if you are not.
