I am now 16 years old I played tennis for 1 year and 4 months and I think my current level is 3.5 going to 4.0. I have 3 more years of high school and I train every single day for 3-6 hours so please tell me can I ever become a tennis pro and what age that seems possible.

  1. Going pro is very difficult. Not only do you need a personal coach, you need to pretty much dedicate your life to tennis (and probably your savings as well). But even if you do show amazing progress and go pro, you can't really make it a career unless you are in the top 200 or a very good doubles player (top 50). With no sponsors, a large portion of your winnings will go towards the enormous travel/equipment costs. So, it is a tough decision if you have another, more stable option for your career. Try playing at college and if you do well nationally, maybe you have a chance like Isner.  I see you are dedicated with the 3-6 hours a day. Good luck!

  2. Yes I think you can become a tennis pro if you really want to...

I know James Blake started playing tennis at the age of 18 and with back problems....he is now a pro.

I am thinking into being a pro, I'm still a lil confused though.... I am 16 too...

I dunno If I wanna do soccer or tennis... people say Im talented in both..

I play everyday aswell hoping and waiting for an opportunity since I live in a country where tennis is not common...

any ways best of luck I think you can make it if you really want to :D

  3. yeah, like they said, the odds are against you

  4. Start playing in USTA Junior tournaments, and get your Junior ranking up.  You are still a long way from playing at the pro level, but keep working hard, and you never know.  The chances of you getting to the pro level are still pretty slim, so make sure you don't neglect your studies and plan on going to college.

  5. Well i'd say the odds are stacked against you, but if you're really talented, then maybe you could play in college and try to go pro after college.

  6. Yes that does seem possible but you should start playing is USTA tournaments and get some ranking points. You should also get a personal coach so you can learn much more than you do now.

  7. Seems like your on the right track to become a great tennis player.  Unfortunately, you started playing too late in life and may not have the proper training to get to the professional level.  Ussually the best of college athletes (like top 30 in NCAA) have a very hard time playing on tour and dont make it.

I would suggest working hard and playing in college, which is still difficult but very possible at your age.  Keep your eyes on college tennis because it really is an honor to be playing at a college level (in any sport).

    Keep working hard!
