college board is ok but i need peoples opinions. my friend got like a 1300 on her sat and got in berkeley because she had an emotional story and good grades. well heres my stuff

- from nigeria, and canada

- moved here last yr to a completely different grading system and still got a 3.75 after missing 2 months of school. the second semester i ended up with a 4.33 and my sat was very weak, i got 1640. i was on honor guard as being in the top 40 out of 800 students, I was number 34,making me in the top 4.25%.. on top that I was the ONLYafrican american on the honor guard, it was said none came even to the top 100. I have tough classes and have always challenged myself. i am on varsity tennis, and i plan to join the HOSA club, and chess club(i actually love that game) and I have been a christian girl scout, been an assistant soccer coach, and i am the oldest of 6 kids. I feel i have overcame and accomplished soo much, is this enough??? do i have a descent, not solid, but a descent chance to get into atleast one UC, or some other good colleges out there? if you think theres something else I should do, Please tell me.

much love, atnib92

  1. did you take any APs? I think you have a great chance if you do but if your just taking honors idk. Worth a try though. I'm having the same problem. If were you I would avoid berkely, San diego, merced, and riverside though. First two are all about studying (no fun, but then again you might want that), the last two are ghetto. Good luck.

  2. oh yah, you definitely should. I got in and the only things I had was a high GPA, SAT score, HOSA, and varsity tennis.  You have a lot more on you, and you have a higher chance of getting in just because you are african american with 5 younger siblings.

  3. Sure, you'll get into at least one UC, but it won't be a top one like Berkeley, LA or SD. The issue is they can not give you a boost for being African American. Berkeley is down to less than 3% blacks since the law was passed prohibiting them from seeking diversity on that basis. So if I were AA, I'd skip the UCs and head straight for a private college that can give you a boost. You'll get into a comparatively much better college that way.
