What are my chances of making JV volleyball?

I am going to be a freshmen next year and I am trying out for high school volleyball in August. I am currently 6'0 and my skills are average.

I am tall which is good obviously, but I feel like the coaches will expect a lot out of me because of that.

The freshmen coach basically told me that I would definatley make the freshmen team cause I am so tall, however....

do you think I have a chance at making JV if I work on my skills this summer?

  1. As you said, you are tall and that helps.

If you work hard this summer, you can easily make JV.  If you do not make JV right away, do not get upset.  Keep working hard and you could make JV before the end of the season.

I have a friend that worked harder on her volleyball than anyone I have ever known.  She was shocked when she made JV her freshman year.  I told her that I was shocked as well.  I expected her to be on the varsity team.  She laughed.  She said that no freshman every played varsity at her school.  I told her to wait.  About a month later, she was on the varsity team as a starter.

If you work hard and keep working hard, you could even be on the varsity by the end of the year.

    Good luck.

  2. yes if you work really hard on all your skills over the summer you could make it, but if you dont and still keep improving in practice you can get pulled up to the better team. so go all out and have fun!

    Good Luck!

  3. At worst, you dont make JV and you go down to the freshman level. There really isnt any disadvantages for trying to join a higher level of play other than the adjustment that will have to be made. Though, I dont know much about the different levels of play in volleyball, you should try JV knowing you have the freshman team to fall back on.

  4. going from a freshman team to jv is a large difference. they will not just look at your height they are going to concentrate more on you skill level so yes it will be tough but if you really concentrate on it this summer you will have a chance... height is good but it is not everything

  5. Yes, just work of your spinking, because if your tall they are going to want you to do alot of that.

  6. see if there are any volleyball camps in your area that you can go to during the summer. they'll emphasize basic skills as well as skills that a person of your size should be good at or are expected to be good at. you'll also get a head start on conditioning, so you'll already be in shape by the time summer practice starts. i think it would really help. plus you'll also get tips from other players who are maybe in your same position.

  7. do your best

  8. well it depends on your schools program. At my school we have a VERYY!! good team and our jv coach takes all of the tall girls with some skill and a good attitude and good work ethic. but then again our jv coach is very skilled and knows how to get the best out of them so she works with them. so really it depends on your school, ability, attitude, and work ethic. if your school has a weight room and program for athletes go and if they have open gyms in the summer go to those as well. i also recommend going to some camps.
