What are my group members unable to send messages to the group through email and instead get a 554 failure?

depends on what e-mail provider their using. not all error numbers will mean the same thing per mail provider. it could be a server delay- if it's an error coming from their e-mail, it's an e-mail issue, not yahoo group issue. they need to consult with their provider

I would recommend telling a Yahoo Groups customer service representative as well in case this turns out to be a Yahoo Group issue.  There were some problems a few weeks ago as well that the tech dept was trying to fix.
