  1. Your odds are not great but if you enjoy the game you should keep playing.  You might end up being a good competitive player and play in college.  Even if none of those things happen, golf is a great life long game and you can meet many wonderful people through the game.

  2. Practicing on the range is helpful for basic swing mechanics, but true experience comes from playing on the course.  With your apparent natural ability, the more time you spend on the course the more likely you will be to not only improve your skill but also gain contacts who can help you along the way.

  3. Having an estimated handicap is not good enough if your'e serious about becoming a pro golfer. You should get into a decent club asap, get some lessons with a decent pro and start to work your handicap as low as you can.

You may think that being 13 you can take it easy coz you have plenty of years to start puting in the effort but believe me theres hundreds of thousands of people in your position right now and they all want to make it too. If you want to be a pro then take it seriously now, dedicate yourself to it and get a handicap!

  4. When you attain a handicap of plus 3 or better and are competitive with the best amateurs in your area, you may want to consider tournament professional golf as a career. This handicap is established from playing the toughest courses in your state at sub-par consistency. The present odds are about 1 out of 50,000 golfers in attaining that degree of proficiency.

  5. 13 years old with a 8 handicap seems to be a good start. If you are a solid 8 handicap, I would assume that your ball striking abilities are pretty solid. Spending time on the range is a good routine to have but the real challenge lie on the course. Being able to play in various conditions (windy, wet, dry, types of greens and so forth) playing in a competitive league such as the 1st tee programs throughout the country. Most importantly you'll need to retain the service of a good golf coach who will understand your desires and guide you to where you want to go.

I been trying to make it to the tour for the past 5 years and have been diligently practing on and off the course (driving range, 5-6 round of course per week, swing analysis, fitness etc.) just because you are 13 you don't have a whole lot of time to achieve your goals and to spend majority of the time on the range won't cut it. Remember there are plenty of junior golfer your age that I know of that can play in the low single digits and some under par. It takes a real commitment and a lot of money and most importantly a TRUE passion for the GAME of golf and not for the card. You need to put yourself outhere to compete with kids your own age to see how you rate. As I've said've been trying for a few years now and my coach and I have fianlly decided that I'm ready to take my game to the next level. I'm a solid 1 handicap and in order for me to compete with the big boys I will need to be able to shoot under par consistently to have a chance.

If this is what you truely want and have a true love for the game, don't let anyone tell you anything different. Don't stray from your goals, stay on top of it and movitate yourself to go out and improve every chance you get rain sleet or snow. Remember 90% of success in wanting to become a professional athlete is perseverence the rest is your attitude.

Wish you the best of luck.

  6. Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean you have a handicap of 8?

  7. If you keep it up, and continue to practice every day, you will have a really good chance of going pro.  That is an excellent handicap for your age.  To go pro, you have to have a strong passion for the game, and you definitely have the potential.  Remember to get out on the course sometimes; don't just limit your abilities to the driving range.

    Keep playing, and good luck.
