Question:

What are my options for a home phone intercom system?

I am running CAT-5 in my house for phone jacks, which gives us the ability to have up to four lines. We will almost certainly never have more than two, and I would like to use one of the four lines to give us an intercom system with the phones. I want to be able to put someone on hold, turn on the intercom to another room in the house, and tell them to pickup on Line 1. The only systems that can do this also have automated answering, extensions and so forth. This is the ONLY functionality that I am looking for and I don't want to turn my house into some kind of a tech support call-in center where someone has to type in a bunch of numbers before they can tal k to me.

Is there such a thing available on the market?

  1. Really, DECT-6 cordless phones may be the best answer to your question without having to do any extra intercom wiring.

Many, or most, DECT-6 cordless phones have built-in intercom feature functionality already.

  2. yes, both phones have all those features you are looking for!!

Uniden and Panasonic...! both are made by the same manufacturer...

one of the best phones on the market is the Panasonic DECT 6.0!!

I have the same set up like you...CAT5 with one base-phone and 6 extensions, and a bluetooth flip-phone, which I purchased later on!!

I got all my stuff from HelloDirect.com
