Question:

What are my options for keeping someone away from my son- works in school 1/4 mile from his school?

Last year school district placed employee on "adm. leave" for 3 months due to a complaint from me about an employee calling my home, emailing me, and contacting my son several times. No phys. contact, but he had no reason to contact us-was not a teacher or administrator- he sought out my son and attempted to "befriend" him. He is still an employee at a school 1/2 mile from where my son attends school now. District (same) is o.k. with it, do I have any further options? Restraining order? Help! I want to protect my child from this man who has been described as "grooming" children.

  1. Unfortunately under NJ law at least, tho creepy, he actually has not committed any crime (other than maybe harassment).  We actually are dealing with a similar situation in our neighborhood and the cops have been very polite, but apologetic.  Your legal options may be limited (we can't get an RO), and the laws in your area might be different.

However, if he is still behaving in the same manner that triggered the leave in the first place, you certainly can report that to his employer, who may decide to terminate and/or relocate him again.  Employment statutes are often easier to make use of than criminal law.

  2. I don't know where you live so I don't know your options as far as a restraining order goes, but surely you could contact your local police force, check with your local government about what your options are. Also pester the school board, write them, call them e-mail them until you get some kind of answer!  If that does not work contact the media, don't libel yourself just state the facts. This sounds really creepy and scarey to me.

  3. I believe you have grounds for a RO. I find it unbelievable that the district would allow such a liability.

  4. restraining order!  get one!  pronto!

  5. you can change him to another school.
