What are my options for my birth control?

My gyno gave me two months supply and a perscription to start this month. I just tried to get the Yaz perscription filled and it is $50 a month!! I can't pay that! And I really need it because I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, so if I don't take it, I will start growing cysts on my ovaries. Will the doctor give me a different, cheaper perscription or more trials? I am so distraught over this because I can't pay $50 a month for this!

  1. YAZ is made by Bayer Pharmaceuticals.  Often, drug manufacturers have plans where they give free or highly discounted drugs to certain people who fall into their particular financial criteria.  Maybe Bayer can help you out with the cost of these pills, especially if you explain your medical condition to them and that you have to take birth control pills.  I researched and found this to be the link to go to as their "Contact Us" page.  Good luck.  I hope they can help.  It's:

  2. In addition to what others suggested, I would also go to Planned Parenthood.  I got all my b/c pills there for free.

  3. Hi! Yaz is a name brand medication. There are plenty of cheaper generics available. Walmart also has some birth control pills on the $4/month plan. Call your OBGYN, explain to him your situation, and he should give you a different prescription no problem.

  4. Contact your doc and ask what generic drugs would work for you.  They will be much more affordable.  Unfortunately, many doctors prescribe certain brand name drugs because they are receiving a kickback from the pharmaceutical company.  If this is the case, a generic will not be prescribed unless you specifically ask for it.
