Hi, i got a mobile phone on contract three months ago.

i have figured out i have zero reception at home, it just turns to 3g. work was fine, then i got a new job, and now its the same as at home. either 3g or nothing.

everyone else at work is on 02, they get full reception, and i know 02 works at home too.

i know i cant get out of the contract now, what i want to ask is, is there anyway i could let someone else have my contract? as in sign it over to them? is that even possible?

i signed an 18 month contract, so have a fair few months left yet, but with no reception i cant handle it. theres no point to me having the phone as i cant use it anywhere!

if someone signed over my contract, it would mean i could get a contract on 02, is this possible? and if not, can you think of anything else i could do?

thankyou.

  1. first call your carrier and report you are not getting coverage both at home and work. let them fix your concern. problem could be your phone. if problem is really about coverage they could let you out of the contract since it is their role to provide coverage in your location.

  2. if I have understood this question correctly, you can't get reception at home except 3g? You should be able switch to 2.5g by switching from 3g to gsm in your network settings. It could also be that the transmitter your phone has locked onto could be down.

  3. It would depend on the network as to whether they would allow you to transfer your contract. Have you spoken to them?

They may be able to offer you a buy-out, where you pay them something to pay off the remainder of the contract. This may work out cheaper then paying monthly for the rest of the contract.

Did you check the coverage before signing up? Even when the reception is rated to be good, there are still pockets where reception is poor.

If they do offer you a buy-out, (after negotiating as much as you can), I'd take it and learn from the mistake.

It's possible the 'phone may have a fault.

There may be a way so the handset only uses the standard 2 or 2.5G network, rather than looking for the 3G network. There may be a menu option that can stop the 'phone using the 3G, so it defaults to 2.5G and it may then work OK.
