I turned in an early termination letter and was given the required notification for the landlord to send their notice. Title VI chpt. 83.575 The landlord must provide such written notice to the tenant within 15 days before the start of the notification period contained in the lease. The written notice shall list all fees, penalties, and other charges applicable to the tenant under this subsection.

What are my rights? We never received a notice from them by a certified letter for what to send them, even though we did give them a forwarding address. Now we just got a call from the collection agency stating we owe them money. The collector stated that they sent a certified letter on June 3. We moved out April 5 and turned our key in on April 20. On top of that he has a copy of my credit report. He threatened me that it is going to affect the house that I own. Please tell me what my rights are. I know that they are taking advantage of me.

  1. What does your rental contract say?  Not state law?

When did The original term of the lease agreement expire?

When did you provide the landlord with the keys April20th.  Moving out on the 5th is irrelevant.
