I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and the father of the child does not want anything to do with me or the baby. What are my rights in making sure that I keep it that way to where he will not gain custody of my child when it is born?

If he does want to see the child should I keep all of the receipts on items I am paying for the baby, clothes, cay care, food, etc..

Should I hire a good Family Law attorney?

  1. Talk to your county's child support enforcement agency.  They may be able to help you without the cost of an attorney.  If you can afford an attorney, go for it.  Good luck!

  2. well only a lawyer can answer this stuff and if i were you i would hang on to the receipts you never know when you need them. and if possible try to get some evidence when he says he doesnt want anything to do with you or the baby.well good luck with everything.

  3. If he doesn't want anything to do with the child then ditch this man now and keep him out of the picture.  As long as you are able to support the child on your income and desire to parent, do so. There are no legality issues in my mind that are necessary.  Now, if for some crazy reason he tries to sue for custodity then you would need a lawyer.

  4. thats a difficult situation because unfortunately depending on the state your in the father of the child is going to still have some form of parental rights to this child. keeping the receipts aren't going to do anything in family court. you two aren't married so unfortunately no one will have custody of your child your'll have to go file petition to establish a parental relationship and if you want child support have them draw that up in the order as well. stay on your p's and q's. record conversations, save emails, save text messages. protect yourself and always ask for both  legal and physical custody. make him threaten you. just do what you need to do to protect your child... a family lawyer won't do anything right now in this state of pregnancy. you have to wait till this child is born. he might change in the next few months but remember don't fall for it. it's an act. record and store everything!
