if i put a bet on a horse £5 each way it came in 3rd and the odds were 5/1 what will i get back??

You only get the odds on the winner; if you are placed you get something like a quarter the odds. So you will get about £6.25 back...

It depends on how many runners in the race and also if the race is a handicap or not.

Normally you get one fifth the odds for placed horses so at odds of 5/1 that equates to 5/5. So for £5 you will receive £10 back.
