  1. Not much more than a brick - not really...

    It's more like 12 or 16 to 1 for the Boeing planes. I checked the 757 specifically.  Guess that is one benefit to flying up in the angels atmosphere (flights at that level are referred to as angle 28 for 28,000 feet, etc...)

    And I assumed you meant at zero thrust..


  2. With engines idling the B727's descent ratio is about 18:1.

    The Gimli Glider, a Boeing 767 that ran out of fuel, achieved a 12:1 glide ratio.
