They use to be Pure Gold But now they have silver then put a bit of gold over the top , i heard the medals are only worth around 84 $

The last Olympic gold medals that were made entirely out of gold were awarded in 1912.

The gold and silver medals are both made of solid silver.

The gold is then coated in a thin layer of gold. This layer will ware off if it is handled too often.
