I am trying to write a story about a kid who grew up in an orphanage.

My problem is that I dont know anything about orphanages.

Can anyone please tell me what the daily routine will be in one, and other things like how the kids go to school and what happens when they turn 18.

I really know nothing of it.

  1. I've never lived in an orphanage, but at one point I was taken from my father and placed in a girls shelter and then a foster family.  The group home was very much like a boot camp... chores, schedules and punishments.  The foster home was much nicer, they enjoyed my short stay and treated me like I was one of their own... they had 3 biological children of their own.

Hope that helps just a little!

  3. Talk to your local Child Protective services. They will be able to help and maybe even help set up an interview with a former resident or a foster parent.

My girls were in orphanges in China, and that would be a totally different story. They children age out there at 14 and work in the factories.
