Such as the earth is flat, time is absolute (Newton) vs. time is relative (Einstein), etc.

  1. 1. The human body will asphyxiate at speeds in excess of 25mph.

    2. The bumble bee cannot fly.

    3. It is impossible for a man to fly, because he is heavier than air.

    4. It is impossible for a ship made of iron to float, because iron is heavier than water.

    5. When the first atomic bomb explodes, it will set off a chain reaction that will destroy the Earth.

    6. The sun revolves around the Earth.

    7. The stars are fixed in the firmament.

  2. I think you mean 'Give some examples of science being wrong.'

It is probably fair to say that most of our science is wrong - it's just that we don't yet know it. Just because what we have is very good doesn't mean it is correct.  For instance, if the Standard Model were correct (the SM is one of the most successful theories of matter we have) we would not be spending enormous sums of money on building the LHC, which is due to go live quite soon.  Whether or not it will confirm the existence of the Higgs boson (which it predicts) will remain to be seen.

  3. The earth being flat wasn't base on beliefs, it was just an assumption base on observation.

And nothing about Einstein's theory of relativity has been proven wrong.

  4. Where does old, now rejected, knowledge come into play in today's world? Nowhere.

Science is self correcting whereas religion is not.

The Bible has always said the world is a circle and that text will never, EVER, correct itself.

And saying scientists thought the world is flat is conjecture.

  5. ...the geocentic theory, Newton's theory of time, the spontaneous generation theory, Maxwell's theory of the aether, Lamarck's theory of acquired heritable traits.... see link below. I asked this question in the science section....

  6. Science doesn't say the earth is flat. Science rejected that theory long before the church did. Ditto for the geocentric theory of the solar system. That science recognizes it can be wrong, and has mechanisms for verifying, is a strength.

That religion may be (many would say IS) wrong and has no way to correct itself is a weakness.

  7. Neanderthal man was proved a hoax

Australian researchers challenge the convention that the speed of light must remain constant

Yes, it is true, Evolution has been show to be wrong by scientists in Norway. but it is not what you think. They performed a very large genetic study and found that Darwin and evolutionary theorists have been wrong for a long time. Eukaryots are....composed of only 4 groups, not the 5 that has been widely agreed upon for a long time.

The Big Bang Theory is good and all but it goes COMPLETELY against all laws of physics. The law of conservation of matter and energy states that matter and energy cannot be either created or destroyed only converted into each other.

so how does this theory work? i also do not believe that the theory Einstein favored is true either. (he favored a continuous universe. one with no end and no beginning).

So what theory could possibly work.

the only other one i can think of is that before the Universe was pure energy and something happened to that energy to create matter. but i see holes in this as well such as what caused this to occur and where did that energy come from. so can somebody help?

The small print explains “very likely” as meaning that the experts who made the judgment felt 90% sure about it. Older readers may recall a press conference at Harwell in 1958 when Sir John Cockcroft, Britain’s top nuclear physicist, said he was 90% certain that his lads had achieved controlled nuclear fusion. It turned out that he was wrong. More positively, a 10% uncertainty in any theory is a wide open breach for any latterday Galileo or Einstein to storm through with a better idea. That is how science really works.

  8. The great religions of the world demand that believers accept religious facts on faith in revealed truth. Empirical science asks its believers to accept its scientific facts on faith in a process that turns those beliefs into facts. Of course, the testing part of the scientific method, the trial and error process that leads to technological development does so because it disproves what doesn't work, directing engineers and inventors in the direction of what does. When it is applied to the realm of ideas, however, the only ideas that can be disproven are ideas that are not physical facts. Thus, instead of proving ideas, the scientific method just leaves standing nondisprovable ideas.

  9. So far Einstein seems to be right.

  10. the theory of evolution

    carbon dating

    radio carbon dating

    big bang theory

the earth didn't come first theory

  11. The Mormon (BYU) claims of Cold Fussion.

  12. Flies come from rotting meat

  13. I wouldn't say Newton was wrong, it's just that his laws only work for low speeds.

Anyway, people once believed that the universe was filled with a substance called the aether.  They thought that light needed a medium to travel through, so they thought the aether filled this role.  They also thought the aether played a part in gravitation, where lots of tiny particles floated about and were responsible for pushing objects together.

Another example is the humours in medicine.  People thought that the body consisted of four humours:  black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, and blood.  When the four of them were balanced it meant you were healthy, and if they became imbalanced or you had an extra amount of one fluid you became sick.  They thought all diseases could be explained by imbalances in the humours.

  14. That's the beauty of science, when its wrong, it admits it, and then corrects the errors.

Remember, it was Galileo who said the earth is not the center of the universe, because he saw moons orbiting Jupiter.  And it was the church that refused to look through the telescope, "because I have FAITH!"

  15. Now list the thousand ways in which the bible is wrong.

I think someone once said "Remove the plank from your own eye before trying to remove the speck in anothers."

  16. The earth is the center of universe,  Spontaneous Generation, size of earth,
