Pie (meat) and chips (fries) are a distinctly Australian combination, especially enjoyed at sporting events such as Cricket, and Aussie Rules Football.  Interesting note is that in Adelaide, you can buy "pie floaters" which is simply a meat pie surrounded in pea soup.  The most common "meat" in pies are pigs trotters/snouts, gristle - basically any old c**p.  Better than hotdogs, I suppose...
